Solitudous, more commonly known as "The Desert Jewel", is the second most popular destination on Taanab. It is located in the planet's only desert on its northernmost continent. It is one of the oldest inhabited cities on the planet, with some structures predating the Trade Federation's presence in the system by a millennia. The arid, rocky deserts north of the city were originally home to a community of religious zealots, who named the area after their desire for isolation and solitude. The wastelands are still rated some of the most challenging and demanding for hiking and camping on the planet, but area still attracts backpackers, hunters, and explorers who want to search for the ruins of those original monastic communities. Expert guides for excursions and hunting trips into the desert are available at many places in the city.

The city of Solitudous itself is one of the Federation's most beautiful resorts. Its beaches are consistently rated as some of the most scenic in both the Federation and the galaxy, and even officials like the viceroy are known to be frequent visitors. Apart from the beaches, Solitudous is also home to the Trade Federation's national zoo, a popular commercial ranch, and a state-of-the-art sports arena that is home to the system's Shockball team and hosts boloball games and podraces. Its luxury hotels, apartments, and condominiums reflect the resort's long history with architecture from many different centuries and styles, and the city is full of different taverns, bars, and restaurants offering a wide variety of cuisine and recreation. A fountain and statue in the middle of the city of the first viceroy Corbin Esco is an exact replica of the monument in the capital city, Forsetti.

Because of its popularity and its proximity to both Forsetti and Camp Gunray, Solitudous is defended by two barracks. The divisions garrisoned here are droid divisions, and the military presence is not readily visible to the residents and visitors to the resort.
