Ebassy District
From TF Library
The Embassy District on Taanab is one of the planet's centers of power and one of its greatest engineering marvels. As the Trade Federationgrew into a major player in galactic events it began to forge alliances and relationships with other governments among the stars. The Federation's capital, Forsetti, had already been planned, and viceroy Corbin Esco decided that he could not risk offending one nation's delegation because another had been given a more advantageous location for their embassy and he ordered his chief engineers to begin planning a new city, one reserved exclusively for embassies and dedicated to diplomacy. Although many different locations around Taanab were offered to the viceroy as options, Esco chose the most ambitious proposal- the one most likely to impress foreign dignitaries and communicate the prowess and promise of the growing Federation: viceroy Esco challenged the engineers to build the embassy district on a floating, artificial island.
The final plan for the Embassy District, or 'the district' as it is commonly called, actually called for three separate districts fashioned together into one floating city. These are called the "Embassy District", the "Embassy District South", and the "Embassy District East." The embassy district houses the headquarters of the Department of External Affairs, as well as the official embassies for several of the galaxy's major powers and even of one religion, the Order of Kampar, which viceroy Horley Cyan popularized. The Embassy East district is hosts many luxurious hotels to house the staff and guests of the diplomats and those who work on the island. The largest structure by far, however, in this district is the embassy of the Hapes Consortium. Despite the original intention in constructing the embassy district- that no foreign power would feel privileged over another- viceroy Esco chose to honor his homeland with granting them the largest embassy on Taanab. The foreign dignitaries are defended by the military installations in the Embassy South district. The southern district hosts several barracks and weapon systems to defend the island from surface, air, or space threats. The district also is home to two massive research facilities, powered by the strong ocean currents and volcanic vents deep under the island itself.
The Embassy District is closed to all visitors unless specifically authorized by the Department of External Affairs.
