Myron is a small, ruddy planet- the nearest to Tive. Because of its small size and its proximity to the system's star, Myron is known to have some of the shortest days and shortest years of any planet in the whole Trade Federation. The planet takes its name from the Myron Rift, the large volcanic chasm and cave system circumscribing the entire planet. Popular lore credits the name to that of an early explorer, Ruug Mryon, or to the word for 'rift' in an now-extinct predecessor of Galactic Basic- 'muraane.' Historians have yet to settle the debate.
What is beyond debate is the plethora of minerals and ores in the planet's crust. Because of its small size and increased volcanic activity, Myron presented potential for a mining colony. Because ores were so easy to access, mining operations appear to have been present on Myron for almost as long as the system has been inhabited. However, the same volcanic activity that makes Myron so alluring to prospectors and miners also poses one of the planet's biggest threats to life. The gases that make up the atmosphere are toxic to most sentient species. While the atmosphere is not immediately lethal, exposure for even a few hours to unfiltered air can lead to poisoning and ultimately to a slow, painful death. To keeps miners safe, the housing quarters and mine shafts themselves are completely sealed off from the outside world and a combination of massive air scrubbers and imported clean air keep the conditions below ground at acceptable levels of pollution. Very few structures exist completely on the planet's surface.
