The Biological Sensor Pack was a tool made to detect any and all nearby lifeforms, as well as allow for more detailed on-the-go scans of their bodily functions. It was the genesis of several separately designed scanners being merged into one safe, efficient, and portable sensor. Earlier iterations that had been created by species were specifically made for the planet they evolved on, causing their versions to not detect many extraterrestrial beings. Once space travel became wide-spread, this problem was soon solved with the creation of the Sensor Pack, which has since become distributed all throughout the galaxy.

History

Having the ability to detect beings that were not seen or heard by the user was the original motive for developing the Biological Sensor Pack, which would allow citizens to know of any present creatures before they could do them harm. Pre-space travel races each designed sensors that picked up species native to their planet, but they soon proved useless for detecting life of a different biological construct. This caused scanning to be left to dedicated surveyors, who were forced to carry several separate devices in order to perform a single task. Such missions were inefficient, and hard to carry out.

Eventually an advancement was made, a bulky contraption that was barely anything more than all the sensors placed in one box. Probes, samplers, and displays jutted out of this early model in all directions, making it incredibly awkward to use. Not only that, but technological disputes between some components caused inaccuracies in the data, leading to numerous myths and legends which have since been debunked. One tale of the device's poor construct said that one particular scan yielded data saying that a nearby rock was alive - the surveyor, doubtful, smacked the sensor's casing in frustration. As it turned out, the mistake was due to a energy buildup in the sub-processing unit, and the sudden jostling caused the entire device to explode, killing its user.

These deficiencies caused the manufacturers to pool their resources, creating a single, well-made scanner: the Biological Sensor Pack. It became extremely popular, and was widely distributed throughout the galaxy. Although rejected in military circles due to the increased use of droids in warfare, it was very successful, and use was wide-spread. The Sensor Pack is now assembled and sold by factions such as the Baktoid Armour Workshop, Zone Supplies Limited, and Creshaldyne Industries.
