Early Days
The biography of Jamaal Newport begins with his birth on the planet of Falleen. Here, Jamaal would be raised and brought up into a lower class lifestyle. Wanting to change it all, Jamaal attempted to utilize his larger than average size to his advantage and become a sports star. Upon not being able to fulfill his desire of becoming a professional athlete, Jamaal decided to call it quits and instead settle into a "real job" in order to support himself. He found work as a prospector for the government where he would spend years of his life mining on bleak, barren systems hoping to strike it big enough to show his worth and be promoted, which never happened.
Finding his Future
As if faith was guiding the way, one day Jamaal would stumble upon a thread that would change his life. Bub'ba Lou, then leader of the Confederate Mining Corporation, had placed a request for a Director of his new Prospecting Department. Seeing a great opportunity for a promising future, Jamaal saw himself as the perfect Falleen for the job. Of the many applicants for the job, Jamaal was selected for an interview with Bub'ba. During the interview, Jamaal decided to be himself and let his personality and potential shine. He answered all of Bub'ba's questions with good, strong answers while being bold and asking the right questions back. Bub'ba must have seen Jamaal's potential as he hired him. After receiving the job, Jamaal left his current role in the Falleen Federation, and immediately grabbed the reigns at the Confederate Mining Corporation's Department of Prospecting.
Jamaal's Rise through the Ranks at CMC/CG
As mentioned, the DoP was brand new. This meaning, that Jamaal was entering a "department of one." The beginning assets of this department were "a bayonet, a few groundhogs and FK7s and some YT1210s" supplied by the Viceroy. As soon as he was accepted as Director, Jamaal rolled up his sleeves and went to work recruiting. Jamaal's recruitment work was a great success as he brought in about 10 people to join him, which was more then their current ships could hold, thus the Viceroy and Bub'ba Lou generously supplied them with more to satisfy what was needed. Today, Jamaal recalls his most significant work in that department as their work on the Lekua Tax Planet, Rafa scanning and doing other important missions that they were assigned. Eventually, Bub'ba Lou would leave CMC for a Minister role in the Trade Federation in which case Pat Rulla would ask Jamaal to become COO (Bub'ba's former position). Jamaal's hard work would lead him to being offered CMC when Pat Rulla left for the Minister role previously held by Bub'ba Lou when Bub'ba became Duceroy. Later, the Confederate Mining Corporation would merge with the Commerce Guild under the command of Jamaal Newport.
What's He Doing Now?
Currently, Jamaal Newport is in command of the Commerce Guild. "I have an awesome team working with me, and we get things done." As for his own journey and how he went from a poor lower class Falleen into a powerful leader of a faction, he gives credit to a few key characteristics that help him everyday. For his current role as head of the CG, he values organization, loyalty, and attentiveness; saying that these are the most important traits to have. "Mining is no joke; you have to keep an eye on everything. People who pay attention to detail and provide a consistent level of effort are irreplaceable."
