Simang A is the lone satellite of Simang a frozen gas giant in the farthest reaches of the Taanab system. Despite its relatively small size when compared to Simang, Simang A often has a larger population and economy than its parent planet. The combination of its remote location, its featureless surface make meteorites easy to locate and extract. This has made the small moon a popular destination for researchers and collectors who hunt, study, or sell the meteorites or other interstellar objects that little the moon's surface. A modest Trade Federation Security outpost was established on the moon in recent decades to ensure the many visitors' safety, making those stationed there the moon's only permanent residents.
Plans for an orbital observatory around Simang are expected to increase popularity of a growing niche tourism industry on the moon. Although currently all visitors to Simang A are lodged either at the Federation outpost or in temporary shelters, the regional government has received numerous permit requests and applications for permanent private settlements to accommodate the researchers.
