Description
Hassaria III is the capital planet of the Hassaria system and is composed of a series of archipelagos grouped around the planet's larger continents. More than 75% of the planet is covered in vast ocean waters, the Sea of Luz, named after the universally renowned cultural scholar Paul Luz and his love of sea exploration. The disbursement of landmasses throughout the large body of water makes naval travel the primary method of ground transportation. Port cities are the centers of commerce in Hassaria III, lending to the heavy maritime culture that encompasses the planet. The Sea of Luz is not only notable for its breathtaking sapphire hue, but for the large population of Cy’een which can often be heard signing in the clear waters. The largest pod of Cy’een summers every year outside of the northern port city, lulling the citizens to sleep during warm summer nights. Each year, Hassaria III receives thousands of outer planetary visitors for the Festival of Song in celebration of the local Cy’een. Traditionally created to be celebrated in a single night, centuries have popularized the holiday into a two week festival that brings in enormous capital to local merchants and business owners. Unlike Hassaria and Hassaria II, very little is produced on Hassaria III in terms of exports. The planet is better known as an anthropological marvel due to its rich history and culture. The economy is bolstered by the local populace keeping their hard earned credits reinvested in local business, as well as revenue brought in from the tourist season in the long summers. The capital city occupies the planet’s second largest landmass, a desert made of ancient sands in the southern hemisphere. Its ancient architecture is said to be an art form in itself, making the capital a desirable location for many visitors. Another point of interest on Hassaria III is the House Arkoh Wildlife Refuge nestled in the planet’s forested northern island. A sanctuary to beasts of all shapes and sizes, the Wildlife Refuge is known for its outstanding interpretive programs and meditative trails scattered throughout the sanctuary’s tamer paddocks. Employment on Hassaria III is highly competitive due to the lack of unskilled labor positions and the desirable location. Demographics skew slightly higher as many sentient species find Hassaria III a calming and beautiful place to retire.
Capital
Hassaria III (12,11) - Kabesh
A City Alive with Song
Resting level with the Sea of Luz on Hassaria III, the city of Kabesh is composed of labyrinthine stone streets and bridges that accent the waterways flowing through it. Economic development is reliant upon the tourist and hospitality industry, making the city's architectural aesthetics, public art, and entertainment of primary importance. The city is centered around a large community park, tiled in a circular pattern of sapphire stones with a large fountain featuring a bronze Cy’een resting gracefully at its center. Large baskets overflowing with moonflowers and flags of colored silk decorate the historic lampposts that dot the park and extend throughout the city streets. When dusk settles over Kabesh, by law no artificial light is allowed in both commercial and residential areas so as not to pollute the night sky. Instead, the sparkflies resting within the globes fastened to the lampposts come to life and illuminate the streets with a soft and natural glow. The pride the locals feel for their hometown is evident by the clean streets and variety of community events and festivals held almost every night. Reflecting their love of the sea and the majestic Cy'een that inhabit it, citizens of Kabesh adorn themselves and their homes in the cool colors of the sea. The cities domed roofs reflect scale-like tiles of shining cerulean. Local dress and attire favors flowing robes of turquoise accented with bronze jewelry and pendants in the shape of Cy'een.
For two weeks each summer, centered around the longest night of the year, the city of Kabesh attracts thousands of visitors from across the galaxy for the Festival of Song during which the native population of Cy'een are celebrated. Near the main port of Kabesh, framed by the boardwalk, a large garden filled with flowering trees thrives as one of the locals favorite points of interest. Utilized year round for seasonal festivals and events, the garden is dedicated to Empress Kreita, founder of the Festival of Song. It was during her reign that extensive portions of Hassaria III were sectioned off as protected land, allowing the native Cy'een to grow and thrive. A stone walkway winding through the garden, known as the Pathway of Kreita, leads to a small meditation pool inscribed with the words of the fabled Empress' favorite song.
Though many historic points of interest can be found throughout the city of Kabesh, entrepreneurial spirit also abounds and many fresh and modern businesses can be visited in the city's urban district. Restaurants and breweries specializing in food and spirits from all across the galaxy keep the local pallets satisfied while attracting sentients of all shape and sizes.
As Kabesh is an island city, surrounded by water on all sides the city is naturally defended against any threats approaching from land. The territorial Cy'een also provide natural defense against some of the less friendly inhabitants of the Sea of Luz. Therefore, only a small group of Massassi Warriors inhabit Kabesh, keeping order within the city and providng peace of mind to its citizens. Dressed in turquoise robes and bronze armor, the Massassi Warriors inhabiting Kabesh adorn themselves in uniforms unique to the city's traditions and history.
