History

Early life

Born as Rhí'En Lûhr on the planet Af'El in the underground city of Shrí'Nalk to a young Defel couple who worked in the mines near the city. The parents, not wanting the same poor lifestyle as theirs for their son, sent him at the age of 3 to a school of the surface city Qua'Tahc. Here he learnt galactic basic and started his education in modern technology. Around this time he adopted the name Rien Lur which he still uses to address manners in basic and is his official citizen name in the Trade Federation.

During those days the Defel home planet was under Imperial rule supervised by Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin who used their technological superiority to alter the planets Biosphere. He burned down forests and poisoned rivers so that the Defels became highly dependent of the Empire, trading high-tech armouring and rare ores for basic supplies like food and fresh water. Needless to say the inhabitants of the large planet weren't happy about the situation so when the news came in Year 0 of a major defeat of the Empire at Yavin IV, where Tarkin himself fell, protests began, the miners refused to meet the meleenium quotas and the people of Af'El demanded more rights from the Empire.

As the imperials refused to acknowledge the demands of an inferior alien species and answered in violence, riots began around the planet and in the spaceport city of Qua'Tahc. This was the time when Rien turned a Defel adult at the age of 10 and was attending a local technical college. As a young intellectual he was part of one of the most loudest protester groups continuously bumping heads with the local stormtroopers.

Under the Empire

Air Pirates fooling around in the jungles of Af'el
After months of protests, strikes and riots a new Moff was appointed to the Outer Rim sectors who was determined to put an end to the uprisings. At Af'El the imperial forces commenced surface bombardment above Shrí'Nalk and made an example out of the underground city by causing a large cave in that engulfed most of the urban areas. The planet succumbed to the Empire once again accepting even worse terms as before in fear of a planetary wide bombardment of the same magnitude. Rien's whole family died in the attack and left him broke and homeless. Driven by grief and anger he joined the local rebel cell called the Air Pirates. Here he underwent basic combat training, took part in hit&run operations and worked as a professional repairman for the group. As an educated member he was later given the job to keep contact with the Rebel Alliance who provided weapons and supplies for the group and ran smuggling missions off the planet. This was the first time Rien had a chance to see the wider galaxy and took in as much experience as possible. As a young easily influenced person he believed in the rebel ideals and thought the Empires end was at the doorstep. That's why he and his group became more bold by the days and started raiding military outposts making a name for themselves but also catching the attention of higher imperial ranks. In an attempt to flush out the local resistance in year 5 the imperial navy blockaded all traffic to and from the planet and by using agents and a lot of credits they turned the local populace against the rebel cells and flushed them from the underground forcing them into the unforgiving jungles of the planet where they were surrounded by imperial forces. Using the planets natural characteristics of higher gravity and vicious storms the Air Pirates held out for a year in the swampy jungles of Af'El but eventually lost to the numerical superiority of the imperial forces. In early year 6 the group was rounded up and those who survived the executions were used as slaves in the distant regions of the Empire.

Lur ended up in the imperial logistics as a slave and did physical labour for his masters. For 5 long years he had worn that shock collar but little did his owners know that he was a trained mechanic and tampered with the device, setting it's effect to barely noticeable while faking great deal of pain in front of them. He spent his time learning about the technology of the Empire and watched how the humans drove their ships from the smallest freighters to the enormous Tabders. In the middle of year 11 he started planing his escape. During a resupply mission on a Star Destroyer he accessed the military records and deleted all imperial data on himself. Knowing that he has some time before anyone notices that a slave's profile is missing he started altering the systems of a Sentinel-Class Landing craft and waited the opportune moment the make his move. He rerouted the shield reactor's power into the hyperdrive to be able to overload the hyperengines on a push off a button and eagerly awaited an assignment to the ship. When he was finally put on the craft with some stormtroopers and droids to make a supply run into the local spaceport, he secretly activated the sequence at landing and made a run for it. The stunned soldiers stayed confused as the shadowy alien was sprinting away through the half open ramp paying no attention to the collar buzzing on his neck as they started to hear a buzzing sound getting stronger around them. A few seconds later the ship blown up with all it's passengers except one sending a shock wave that shut down most of the lights around. Rien slipped into the night.

In the Trade Federation

Proud TF Citizen
Many months after being a beggar on the streets and stowaway on different cargo ships he arrived back at home. His home planet now independent welcomed him back but couldn't offer him a new life. The damage by the Empire was already done. There was a lack of Jobs, food and basic services. Half the planet was in ruins and starving.

Lur realized he has no place here anymore so after looking up his old college friends who gave him shelter he searched for work off world. He had no clear expectations and considering his past he read every job advert with suspicion. He remembered that his republican views were the reason that lead to his slavery so he didn't think the Republic was any better than the Empire, to him both were power hungry groups trying to force their ideals on outsiders causing more harm than good. He also despised strict military organizations where soldiers blindly followed orders even into death so he looked for a neutral civil group to work in. That's when in year 12 he came upon the Trade Federations recruitment post on the Holonet. He picked up what little he had and took a shuttle to Tanaab.

He took the Academy classes while not knowing what to expect from his knew employers. Finished a week later with average results and was assigned under Mak Gy'ver in the Flight Team Phoenix. Fearing persecution he stayed low and worked hard preferring long lonely spaceflights. His fears were found unnecessary as a little time later when he was promoted and was contacted by Resource Director Pat Rulla who contracted the surprised Defel for prospecting work. This is where Rien started to shine and after his first major project, the prospection of the recently reclaimed Neimoidia, he was recognized throughout the Federation when awarded the prospector's cross on an official ceremony. As he became more comfortable with his new life he made friends in the Ministry having the highest respect for Pat Rulla and Jake Peterson who helped him achieve his position. With recognition came more work and soon Rien was given the job of Supply Manager and was promoted to officer rank.

Currently he is affiliated with a major housing project in the Obroa system and recently applied for the Flight Lead training program. Planning to revive the dissolved team Phoenix, his first squad.

Personality and Traits

On the Viceroyal Medal Ceremony with a human courtesan
Rien is a 1,51 meter high male Defel weighing 65 kgs. His fur has an orange colour when there is enough UV component in the light around him otherwise it stays black. He wears practical work clothes most of the time so his co-workers can see his shape more clearly and a defel visor witch helps him see in "UV-less" environments. He is a bit shy between people he doesn't know and treats them with a mild suspicion very likely to be a product of the Imperial oppression of his life. He chats frequently with people he trusts and protects those he admires. He hates paperwork and has a certain distaste for strict hierarchies this has held him back in advancement in the Federation but he is not reluctant to overcome these handicaps if needed. Seeing so many soldiers going into their deaths blindly he has a certain mocking personality towards them and tries to poke them with cheese comments wherever he can. After long years of confinement and hardships now he has money on things he never had and found a new hobby in hunting and he makes private parties for his mercenaries from time to time where he invites dancers, musicians and courtesans. He doesn't seem be a picky person when it comes to women also a product of his life isolated from society. Twi'leks, Humans, Bothans, Zabraks etc. are all exotic for him and often get invited to his personal Marauder-Class Corvette.
