Manta Birostris was born on the Planet Manaan, during the occupation of the Galactic Empire. According to the history text, Manaan was being occupied for supporting the Rebel Alliance by distributing kolto (a plant with healing powers). His race was enslaved and forced to harvest kolto for the Empire. After a nearly successful bloody rebellion, the Emperor realized that there may be Force-sensitive Selkath living amongst our brethren.
