History
Historians are aware that the title has been in use long before the creation of the Trade Federation, though in the traditional sense of a ruler in lieu of a Monarch or a person in charge of a large jurisdiction. There is much debate over how the term came to apply to the leader of the Trade Federation, though the most widely accepted theory is that the group itself was sponsored by royalty or a ruling benefactor, and the title came to reflect this relationship which was, in turn, lost with the destruction of the Trade Federation during the Clone wars.
The Reformation
After Corbin Esco found the blueprints for the Trade Federation and Confederacy of Independent Systems, the title resumed use as the head of the Federation, though based on tradition, rather than relationship. Corbin Esco assumed this role, and became the first Viceroy the Trade Federation.
