Early Life
Kopljanik started his career as a young crew member for a small freighter called the “Mali Vrach.” The Vrach smuggled rare spices and sold them throughout the galaxy. In this cutthroat environment, Kopljanik learned the finesse of negotiating trades, conversing with alien species, and, most importantly, how to survive.
Six years on the job, the Vrach travelled to an uncharted jungle planet to replenish its supply of spices. However, that seemingly routine task turned into a massacre when assassins hired by a rival spice cartel followed the Vrach into the planet. The landing party -among which was Kopljanik’s boss and mentor- was swiftly, and brutally, killed by the assassins. Fortunately, Kopljanik was repairing the interior of the ship during the assassination. Upon realizing the danger, Kopljanik and the Vrach’s second-in-command immediately took off and escaped before the assassins managed to eliminate them. Devastated by the lost of his employer, Kopljanik left the Vrach and worked alongside other spice smugglers.
Two years after the assassinations, the Vrach’s new captain -formerly the second-in-command- suffered a similar fate as his predecessor. In his will, he wanted Kopljanik to inherit the Mali Vrach. Unfortunately, Kopljanik never received the ship because pirates hijacked the ship and claimed it for their own. Coincidentally, Kopljanik’s banking account was also hacked by unknown party and left him nothing. With very little resources left, Kopljanik began to wonder if the life of a spice smuggler was meant for him. He took the misfortunes of the Vrach’s two captains, along with his own, as an omen. He left the spice smuggling industry and set out to find a new way of living.
Career in the Trade Federation
At some point after leaving the spice smuggling industry, Kopljanik joined the Trade Federation. Applying what he learned from years of smuggling, he soon became a distinguished logistics pilot. After many years of dedicated service, Kopljanik became the Flight Team Leader for the “Pathfinders.”
Corporate Enterprise
Through years of dedicated service, Kopljanik Despotovic used his hard-earned income to found a corporation called Hrast Holdings. The corporation is a conglomerate of numerous branch companies, most notably the “Hrast Mercenary Regiment” and “HABITAT.”
Hrast Mercenary Regiment
Realizing the growing demand for security and competent soldiers, Kopljanik pooled in his resources to create a small mercenary company. Alongside Colonel Raven, who foresaw all military operations within the company, Kopljanik brought the company up to becoming a big-time competitor in the local paramilitary market. The company specialized in personnel training and direct action.
Unfortunately, as the company grew, so too did Colonel Raven’s ambition. He was secretly using the company’s mercenaries to conduct illegal activities and gain power. Fortunately, personnel loyal to Kopljanik alerted him before it was too late. Consequently, Raven led an insurrection to eliminate Kopljanik and gain control of the company. Approximately one-third of the company joined Raven’s side, resulting in a bloodbath between those supporting Kopljanik and those against him. While Revan was an experienced commander, Kopljanik held the obvious advantage of sheer numbers. With more than half of the company still under his control, and with the support of the Trade Federation, Kopljanik had the resources to defeat Colonel Revan in a direct battle. At the end of the battle, Revan managed to escape alongside with the remnant of his army. Though many have passed since Raven’s insurrection, the Hrast Mercenary Regiment is still recuperating its losses.
HABITAT
HABITAT is another branch company of Hrast Holdings. This company specialized in commercial exploration and contracted colonial expansion and management. To accomplish this, the company divided itself to numerous divisions such as: HABITAT Crops Science Labs; who focused on terraforming the biosphere for crop farming, and HABITAT Space-work Development; the division that specializes in the production, repair, and refurbishing of colonial ships.
