Neimoidia is a temperate world located in the Balmorra sector. The planet is home to the Neimoidian race and was, for decades, the capital of the Neimoidian-run Trade Federation before the company's forced dissolution during the rise of the Galactic Empire. In order to distinguish it from their so-called Purse Worlds, Neimoidians often refer to their home as Pure Neimoidia.
This planetary body was first discovered several millennia ago, during the early stages of the Old Republic's history, by a group of Duros explorers. Due to the lush landscape of this planet when compared to the toxic wasteland that their homeworld Duro had become, this Duros expedition ended up colonizing the planet, making it their new place of residence. Over the course of the next several thousand years, Neimoidia's settlers evolved, in order to adapt to the specific conditions of their home, and became the first Neimoidians - a race now considered separate from their Duros cousins.
Pure Neimoidia's temperate climate allowed for the development of a largely agricultural society which influenced the very lifestyle of the Neimoidian race. In due time this society expanded, turning into an industrial one and becoming one of the reasons for the interest in trade that all Neimoidians share. In addition, the trading brought fame and fortune to Neimoidia and was the driving force behind the colonization of several other worlds in adjacent star systems. These would later be known as the Neimoidian Purse Worlds - points of business interest for many Neimoidians.
In the waning days of the Galactic Republic, Neimoidia was still a point of interest for galactic society despite the ongoing Clone Wars and continued to profit. The Declaration of New Order, however, was costly for this world and its inhabitants. The planet was subjugated, all of its resources imperialized, and a good deal of its population used for slave labor. It wasn't until recently that the planet was returned to a now reformed Trade Federation and began its restoration to past glory.
